Iatridi Zacharoula

Her research interests focus in:

  • Study of synthetic or natural-based (e.g. polysaccharides) polymers.
  • Synthesis and characterization of polymers of various architectures (e.g. linear, comb-type copolymers) with several synthetic methods (homogeneous polymerization in organic solvent or aqueous media, graft copolymerization, chemical functionalization of polymers, etc.).
  • Study of ’’smart’’, functional, stimuli-responsive (that respond to external stimuli such as temperature, pH, ionic strength) materials.
  • Self-assembly of polymers in aqueous media.
  • Interactions of polymers with surfactants, drugs, metal ions, magnetic nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes, for the preparation of hybrid organic/inorganic materials.
  • Hybrid polymer/nanoparticle (e.g. magnetic or silicon dioxide nanoparticles) systems for diagnostic or therapeutic reasons.
  • Controlled release of drugs or other chemical substances (e.g. biocides).
  • Design and development of multifunctional, biodegradable, injectable polymeric hydrogels, for potential biomedical applications (e.g. tissue engineering).
